Research and Science with Impact: Which Wall Will Your Research Break?
Falling Walls Lab is an international pitch competition, in which participants present their science-based idea, project or innovation in three minutes and are evaluated by a jury at the final stage. The winners of the more than 75 labs get the great opportunity to meet an international community from science, business, politics and culture at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin and compete for the title “Science Breakthrough of the Year” on a big stage in the final.
With the Falling Walls Foundation, we share the conviction that research and innovation go hand in hand and can make an important contribution to solving global challenges. The visibility of the projects and researchers who implement and actively drive them forward is essential for this impact. As part of the Elements4Founding (supported by Vector Stiftung) and QCLUB (funded by BMBF as part of the QSENS cluster for future) projects at ENI we have been members of the organizing team since the start of the project and hosted the Falling Walls Lab Baden-Württemberg at the University of Stuttgart together with Wissensfabrik e. V. in 2024.
From New Zealand to San Francisco to Constance: Baden-Württemberg as an International Location for the Falling Walls Lab Competition
Baden-Württemberg is undisputedly the region with the greatest innovation potential within the European Union and is one of over 75 global lab locations. Following successful editions of the Lab format at the University of Heidelberg (2022), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2023) and the University of Stuttgart (2024), this year's competition will take place at the University of Konstanz as part of forum.konstanz. Together with the aforementioned partner institutions and the strategic research association HEiKA, we have selected eleven promising projects from a large number of applications to present their ideas to a top-class jury on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the Data Theatre in Konstanz.
This year's jury members are:
- Dr. Steffi Blumentritt, Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH (Senior Investment Director)
- Ina Schlie, University Councillor at the University of Konstanz, graduate economist and Co-Chair of encourageventures e.V.
- Prof. Dr. Elisa May, Chief Enabling Technology Officer, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg und Professor of Cellular Bioimaging, University of Konstanz
- Prof. Dr. Nils Hoegsdal, Stuttgart Media University (Vice Rector Innovation)
- TT-Prof. Dr. Barbara Bruno, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR)
- Prof. Dr. Patrick Müller, University of Konstanz, Professor of Developmental Biology and co-founder of EmbryoNet AI Technologies
The event is open to the public and participation is free of charge and highly encouraged. Further information and the possibility to register can be found via the link below. We look forward to your participation!
