Makerspaces and workshops at the University of Stuttgart

April 25, 2024

Do you have a creative idea or would you like to implement an exciting project, but don't have the right tools? There are a number of makerspaces and workshops on Campus Vaihingen (and also on Campus Stadtmitte) where you can let your creativity run free.

Some of them can be used quite simply without making an appointment in advance, while others require a detailed project discussion and appointment in order to be able to potentially use the equipment.

There is a wide range of equipment: from sewing machines to laser cutters, 3D printers and A/V production facilities, there is the right equipment for (almost) every project.

The official Makerspace next to the Universum on the Vaihingen campus is one of the low-threshold offers. During opening hours (Monday from 2 to 7 pm, Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm), you can simply come by and use the equipment free of charge after a briefing, regardless of whether you are studying or working at the University of Stuttgart. In addition to many different machines and tools, you will also meet lots of other creative people with whom you can discuss your projects.

Many institutes also have workshops with different specializations. In order to possibly be allowed to use them, you need a concrete project plan, which you present in your usage request.

A complete list of makerspaces and workshops at the University of Stuttgart, including contact details, can be found here. There you can also find a link to the interactive map by TIK which helps you to find specific workshops and tools on campus.
