Accelerating innovation through sourcing and selection of new venturess

May 10, 2023

Successful organizations can eventually start failing when they lose their innovativeness and entrepreneurial spirit. An increasingly popular option is introducing corporate accelerators for established organizations to find and build new opportunities.

Denis Bettenmann, a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Science (ENI) at the University of Stuttgart, has recently completed a research project that promises to find the secret recipe on how the collaboration between corporates and startups can be the source of innovation for an established organization.

The article: It's all about opportunities: sourcing and selection of new ventures to accelerate innovation published in R&D Management journal, explains: ‘How do corporate accelerator units support the sourcing and selection process of new ventures for organizational innovation?’

His findings provide evidence of how the Corporate Accelerator unit (CA unit) accelerates the search for innovative startups by providing the company's organizational units with access to a wide variety of startups and their technologies. The CA unit helps organizational units identify their innovation gaps and strategic goals and search for solutions from startups that can support these goals.

Suppose you want to help your organization stay innovative and open to new opportunities. Consider dedicating efforts to sourcing and selecting startups beyond your current markets and solutions. Denis Bettenmann’s research suggests that the benefits of this action go beyond the scope of the collaboration with the startup, as this type of action contributes to broadening the whole organization’s search horizon and accelerates the innovation journey.
