1. Please briefly introduce yourself and your current job.
My name is Christine Kispert and I have the wonderful and challenging task of setting up a career service at the University of Stuttgart. What does a career service do? Well, it supports students with career orientation - what do I want and what can I do? -It offers insights into job profiles - what exactly does a development engineer, a key account manager or a collection curator do? - and imparts application knowledge. At the same time, we support employers in the areas of recruiting and university marketing and lecturers in the area of employability in teaching. As we are still in the development phase, our current focus is on creating infrastructure at the university, networking the various players who are already active in this area and making our services more visible.
2. How did you get involved in career service?
How did you end up in the Career Service department?
Completely by chance, I was looking for a 75% job in Esslingen and ended up at the university's Career Center. That's how I got to know an area of work that makes me very happy and also suits my talents. Thanks to many further training measures, contacts and coaching training, I have become more and more professional and am enthusiastic about the topics I am able to deal with, first in Esslingen and now at the University of Stuttgart. I originally studied economics and politics and wanted to work in political consulting. Surprisingly, these activities didn't really satisfy me that much.
3. Who can contact you and how do you provide support?
Talk to the professionals. There is an excellent network at the University of Stuttgart for students who are enthusiastic about starting their own business. At the transfer center TRACES, start-up coaches are available to discuss your questions with you and help you find your own answers - especially in the first phase. If you are already further along, TRACES will refer you to the right people. The Career Service can help you decide whether a start-up is the right path for you or whether you should go into science or business after all.
