Three questions for Marcel Werle

November 3, 2020

"Three questions for..." is a format of the regularly published newsletter for Startup & Entrepreneurship at the University of Stuttgart. Here, people from the ecosystem of the University of Stuttgart introduce themselves, report on their experiences with the topic of "startup and entrepreneurship" and reveal tips for people interested in founding a company.

  1. Please briefly introduce yourself and your current job.

My name is Marcel and I am 28 years old. I have been working as a startup coach at the University of Stuttgart since July 2020. My job is to support future founders in the realization of their startup idea. The support starts very early, when students and researchers come to our initial meetings and present their idea. Other teams, however, are already further along and want to secure their first funding.

  1. How did you get involved in entrepreneurship?

I am very curious myself and therefore always have a certain urge to deal with topics that are new and emerging for me or in general. Accordingly, I am always eager to hear the ideas of the founders and always learn for myself. I am consistently fascinated by how people embrace change and create innovations with the help of technology. Of course, I'm especially happy when teams manage to establish a company on the market in the long term.

  1. What advice would you give to students who are enthusiastic about founding a company and are currently considering it or have already taken the first steps towards self-employment?

In the current difficult situation, you should not be discouraged by external circumstances. On the contrary, many successful startups were founded during economic crises, took advantage of social and technological changes and took off after the crisis.
