5th Demo Night of the AWAKE Program

December 16, 2020

The Demo Night of the AWAKE program of the University of Stuttgart took place again this semester. The best teams from the current batch pitched their projects on topics such as digitalization and sustainability to a top-class jury and a large audience remotely and live.

"Very exciting, innovative startup ideas were presented during the entertaining Demo Day. It was a lot of fun to watch the teams during their pitches and motivated to tackle own startup ideas. The University of Stuttgart is laying the foundation of many new startups with the AWAKE program." (A member of the jury)

The Vector Stiftung-funded course “Awake - in 6 weeks to a startup” entered its 5th round. For six weeks, more than 40 participants from over 20 different courses of study worked in a total of 11 teams on their business idea. The teams were actively supported by student coaches. Each team developed its own spirit and the mutual support motivated everyone to top performance. At the final Demo Night, 8 teams had the opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of a jury and over 200 spectators. The top-class jury included Eva Sonnenmoser, Julia Schmaus, Mika Mänz and Prof. Dr. Meike Tilebein.

The "Jury Prize", endowed with 1000€, was won by Team rebagstr, who came up with a sustainable system solution for waste separation.

Team DINO, with the slogan "Get out of the Stone Age - even in everyday student life!!!", was able to convince the jury with the digitalization of the student ID card and also won the "Jury Prize".

Team Hydrop, which deals with the problem of increasing water scarcity and develops an intelligent monitoring system for it, won the "Audience Award" (500€).

Team Kleinachtsbaum was able to inspire with a sustainable mail order business for Christmas trees and won the "Delta Coaches Prize" (500€).

The Alumni Prize of 500€ was awarded to Team Sacuro, which offers an innovative, automated test evaluation for blood cancer test sticks.

The other teams in the competition were:

  • Greenvertise: Sustainable B2B Give aways.
  • Team without a name ;-) : Sale of Christmas trees and donation per sold tree
  • Tabcard: merging apps for bonus cards and retailers in one application
  • Bridge: platform for communication between local and international / exchange students
  • Timematch: app for booking appointments with small businesses
  • Insightme combines data from different tracking health apps and generates new insights for users

So if you just want to try out the startup topic or have your own ideas that want to be realized, then feel free to register for AWAKE or for one of the other formats in the coming semester.
