The conference served as a platform for researchers at all career stages to present their work, receive feedback, and foster their academic and professional development. In addition to research presentation sessions, the conference featured workshops and expert panels. The primary focus of the conference was on strategy research and related fields. Additionally, there were numerous sessions on artificial intelligence (AI), exploring its dual role as both a research tool and a subject of strategic study.
Sophia and Ferran had the honor of presenting their ongoing research on strategic pivoting behavior in new ventures. Using the BW startup dataset, their study investigates how the competitive environment of entrepreneurial ecosystems—defined by factors such as physical proximity to ecosystem hotspots and engagement with ecosystem support structures—affects both the frequency and type of pivots. The research distinguishes between incremental and radical pivots, analyzing changes related to key elements such as value creation processes, technology, and market strategies.
The SMS Annual Conference also offered valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration. Participants exchanged ideas on how strategic management practices can adapt to rapidly evolving technological landscapes, particularly the integration of AI in research methodologies and strategic decision-making.
Attending the SMS Annual Conference provided an inspiring environment to connect with international researchers, strengthen existing collaborations, and explore new possibilities for joint projects.
